"Can we get a dog?" my 4-year-old asked.
"Sorry, sweetie," I said. "Our landlady said we couldn't have a dog."
He was visibly downcast for a moment, then he brightened as another idea occurred to him. "How about an elephant?" he asked, eyes sparkling.
That's when I found myself saying:
"Elephants are too big to live in apartments."

Awesome! Was that Samuel or Kiyoshi? and you must explain the back story on that one
Okay, here’s the back story: Samuel came to me one day and said, “Mommy, I want to get a puppy-dog.” I explained that our landlady had told us that we can’t have a dog. Then he asked, “Can we get an elephant?” (By the way, after I told him that elephants are too big to live in apartments, he said, “How about a little one?”)
This is the cutest thing I have heard in a while….
Very cute! Why am I not surprised that he wants a puppy? =o)
